Learning at Ichiban
We believe it’s crucial to create and promote a positive, safe and engaging environment for your child’s healthy development.
With this in mind, we’ve carefully designed the Ichiban Nursery classrooms and activity areas through a blend of six concepts of learning: Practical Life Skills, Cultural Appreciation, Sensorial Learning, Mathematics, Language, and Movement & Control.
Young children are naturally curious and keen to learn and discover new things – and do so by trying and repeating. We actively encourage their curiosity and provide a safe, caring and positive space where your child will be able to learn, develop and socialise through fun, constructive activities with their fellow age group.
Research has shown that children who spend more time in nature benefit from improved mental and physical health, improving their mood and reducing stress and tiredness.
This is one of the reasons we have used as much natural light as possible in our nursery, as well as access to outdoors and nature-related activities, and an uncluttered environment to promote wellbeing.
Practical Life Skills
Everyday tasks and routines such as cleaning, getting dressed, and preparing food can be new and exciting experiences for young children.
At Ichiban, we help them develop their practical skills by providing fun routines, which further develop their motor-control, concentration, and coordination. Additionally, encouraging participation in daily tasks encourages independence, confidence and manners, as well as a sense of responsibility for themselves and others.
Cultural Appreciation
Learning about different cultures enriches children’s understanding and appreciation of the world around them, and their place in it. Discovering more about people, practices, nature and places encourages a healthy understanding and respect from a young age, and acts as a basic introduction to concepts of science, geography, and social studies.
Sensorial Learning
Sensorial learning sparks the imagination and satisfies young children’s natural curiosity for the world around them through observing, listening and feeling.
At Ichiban, we use sensory materials to introduce different textures, sounds, smells, and tastes in order to develop the children’s motor and conceptualisation skills.
Mathematics
Young children seek to understand their world by assigning order, exploring, classifying, and get oriented with their environment. By introducing them to basic mathematical concepts with versatile and inspiring materials, this sparks children’s natural creativity, imagination, and abstract-thought capabilities using their mathematical mind.
Language
Children are able to adopt the language from their environment, learning to mimic words, songs, phrases, and gestures, and making links through action and play.
At Ichiban, your child will have plenty of opportunities to develop and broaden their language and cognitive-skills, and to give them the freedom and capabilities to express themselves and communicate with others.
Movement & Control
Children have an innate desire to move and be active. Through active play, they develop both their gross and fine motor skills.
Young children discover their capabilities through fun and enriching activities such as painting and colouring-in, puzzles, pretend play, yoga, and self-care tasks including tying shoelaces. Our nursery has multiple areas that provide age-appropriate, challenging and motivating experiences to develop healthy movement and control.
